Sam Asghari, the ex-husband of pop star Britney Spears, is reportedly distraught following a concerning incident involving Spears at the Chateau Marmont hotel in West Hollywood, California. According to a source close to Asghari, the fitness guru "feels terrible" about the situation and hopes that his former wife is "OK."

The incident, which took place early Thursday morning, involved first responders being called to the luxe hotel in response to an alleged altercation between Spears and her on-again, off-again boyfriend, Paul Richard Soliz. While Spears admitted to injuring her ankle, she denied reports of a fight with Soliz via an Instagram post, stating, "Just to let people know... the news is fake !!! I also twisted my ankle last night and paramedics showed up at my door illegally. They never in my room but I felt completely harassed."

Despite the couple's public denial, sources close to Spears told Page Six that ambulances were called due to a fight between the pop star and Soliz. This is not the first time the pair has been involved in an altercation; according to a separate report from TMZ, Spears and Soliz allegedly trashed a Las Vegas hotel room during an "intense fight" four months before their latest debacle.

The source close to Asghari, 30, revealed that the actor "will always have a soft spot for Britney and will always be protective over her," adding that the incident at the Chateau Marmont is "heartbreaking" for him to witness as a now-outsider. "Sam is a helper and was there for her in her hardest times. He hopes she is OK," the source said.

Asghari's concern for Spears, 42, stems from his belief that the hotel drama involving Soliz is "definitely worrisome," with the source noting that Asghari "has been down this road with Britney before and knows how she is." The fitness guru reportedly feels that the situation is "heartbreaking" and that Spears "is not surrounded by positive people" in her life at the moment.

The couple's tumultuous relationship has been in the spotlight since Page Six broke the news last August that Spears was spending more time with Soliz, her former housekeeper with a criminal past, after Asghari filed for divorce earlier that month. The actor listed their date of separation as July 28, just 14 months after their marriage.

Despite their uncoupling, the source emphasized that Asghari "will always wish [Spears] the best and would be there for her if she needed him." The couple finalized their divorce on Wednesday, with a source telling Page Six that they settled "amicably."

Following the incident at the Chateau Marmont, Spears released a statement via social media, posting two similar messages before and after news broke of the altercation. In a since-deleted Instagram post, she wrote, "Most of the pics are body doubles and I think most know that!!! I would like respect at this time for people to understand I am getting stronger everyday [sic]!!! Truth sucks so can someone teach me how to lie???"

The pop star continued, "Goddesses out there, I'm reaching my higher power, and furthermore, I hope you guys are too!!! I need a new toothbrush right now!!! PS ... I need an espresso!!! PSS ... Not sure why I feel the need to share this ... I guess I'm just a girl and I'm on my period so I'm bitchy ... s-t !!!"

While Asghari has not publicly responded to the incident, he did post a shirtless photo via Instagram on Thursday, captioning the snapshot of himself hiking with his dog, "Life update ."
